Athens Riviera & Cape Sounio Sunset Tour
Private sunset tour to the Temple of Poseidon
The Athenian Riviera stretches south along one of Europe's most stunning coastal roads, ending at Cape Sounio — where the Temple of Poseidon stands against the Aegean sky.
This experience is designed around timing. Cape Sounio is roughly 65 minutes from central Athens in normal conditions, so we set pickup against the sunset on your date — usually two and a half to three hours before it — following the coast through seaside villages and dramatic clifftop views. You'll arrive at the temple with time to explore before the sun begins its descent.
Watching the sunset from Sounio is one of Greece's most unforgettable moments — and you'll experience it without the crowds, in complete privacy.

Context
About Cape Sounio
Cape Sounio is the southernmost point of Attica — a narrow promontory that drops sharply into the Aegean about seventy kilometres south of Athens, at the end of the Apollo Coast (the Athens Riviera). On its highest point sits the Temple of Poseidon, built in the 5th century BC on the site of an earlier shrine, and recorded by Lord Byron, who carved his name into one of the columns in 1810 (you can still see it).
The Temple of Poseidon was built by the same architects who worked on the Parthenon, in the same Doric style, with the same proportional grace. Sixteen of the original thirty-four columns still stand. The site was strategic before it was sacred: from the cliff, an Athenian sentry could see ships approaching from any direction, days before they reached Piraeus. For sailors, the temple was the last sight of home as they left Athens, and the first sight on returning.
The journey south from Athens is part of the experience. The coastal road follows the Riviera through Glyfada, Vouliagmeni and Lagonisi, with cliffs on one side and a string of small bays on the other. Most guests stop for an unhurried seafood lunch by the water before continuing to the temple — there is no need to rush, and arriving in time for the late afternoon light is the point.
Sunset at Cape Sounio is one of the few experiences in Greece that consistently lives up to its photograph. The temple turns gold; the sea below goes from blue to pink to deep violet. The official site closes at sunset, so we time the arrival carefully — early enough to walk through the columns properly, late enough to watch the sun drop into the Saronic Gulf from the exact spot where Athenian sailors saw it for the last time, twenty-five centuries ago.

Frequently Asked
Questions, answered
There is no fixed departure time — sunset at Cape Sounio moves by more than three hours between midsummer and midwinter, so we set pickup against the actual sunset on your date. We plan to arrive roughly 60 to 90 minutes before sunset, which normally means leaving central Athens about two and a half to three hours beforehand, allowing for the drive, traffic and any coastal stops you'd like. The exact pickup time is confirmed against your travel date, the sunset, traffic and the agreed Riviera stops.
In Their Own Words
From recent guests
“We were lucky to engage Greg at the Athens Airport after another driver refused to take us into the city. He was personable, gave us the lowdown on Athens, and got us to our Airbnb in record time through the back streets. We used him again for a trip outside the city for seven of us — flying colors. I would contact him again in a heartbeat.”
