History, mountains & the centre of the ancient world
Set on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, Delphi is more than a destination — it is an atmosphere. For over a thousand years, the Oracle of Delphi shaped the decisions of the ancient world.
This private experience takes you through the Sacred Way, the Temple of Apollo, the ancient Theatre, and the Tholos of Athena Pronaia — followed by a relaxed stop in the mountain village of Arachova.
The drive itself is part of the experience — through the foothills of Parnassus, where the landscape shifts from plains to dramatic mountain scenery.

About Delphi
Delphi sits two hours northwest of Athens, on the southern slope of Mount Parnassus. For close to a thousand years it was the most important religious site in the ancient Mediterranean — the place where city-states, kings and ordinary citizens travelled to consult the Oracle of Apollo before any decision that mattered. Founding a colony, going to war, marrying a daughter: the Pythia's cryptic answer was the final word.
What survives today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that few visitors take the time to read properly. The Sacred Way climbs past treasuries built by rival cities — each a small marble building meant to display the city's wealth and devotion — toward the Temple of Apollo, where the Pythia sat above a chasm in the rock and inhaled the ethylene fumes that produced her prophecies. Above the temple, the theatre offers one of the finest views in mainland Greece; higher still, the stadium where the Pythian Games were held survives almost intact.
Below the main sanctuary, often missed by guests in a hurry, is the Tholos of Delphi — a small circular temple to Athena Pronaia that has become the destination's signature image. The Delphi Archaeological Museum, set quietly between the modern village and the ruins, holds the bronze Charioteer of Delphi: one of the finest surviving bronzes from antiquity, almost unaltered after 2,500 years.
Most coach tours give Delphi three hours and a packed parking lot. A private day allows you to arrive early, take the site at your own rhythm, stop at Arachova for lunch on the way back (a stone village built into the mountain, busier in winter than summer), and return to Athens before dark. If the visit moves you — and it usually does — extending to a two-day journey adds Meteora the following morning, which is the only natural pairing.

Around two and a half to three hours each way, depending on your pickup point and traffic leaving Athens. The route climbs gently through the Boeotian plain into the foothills of Mount Parnassus, and we stop for coffee along the way — the drive is part of the experience, not something to endure.
In Their Own Words
From recent guests
“We took a private trip to Delphi with Gregory. He wasn't a 'taxi' driver — he was a host to Athens and the surrounding areas. Excellent and skillful driver, knew the roads to take when there was traffic, full of knowledge of Greece. Wonderful conversations and perfect recommendations for our stops. I fully recommend him.”

Private Day Trip to Delphi
“We were lucky to engage Greg at the Athens Airport after another driver refused to take us into the city. He was personable, gave us the lowdown on Athens, and got us to our Airbnb in record time through the back streets. We used him again for a trip outside the city for seven of us — flying colors. I would contact him again in a heartbeat.”
