About Nemea
Nemea is the most respected wine region in Greece — a small upland valley in the northeast Peloponnese, ninety minutes from Athens, planted almost entirely with the indigenous Agiorgitiko grape. The region holds Protected Designation of Origin status (the Greek equivalent of a French AOC), and produces wines that range from soft, fruit-forward reds to structured, age-worthy bottles that compete with the best of southern Europe.
Wine has been made here for at least three thousand years. Archaeologists working at the ancient sanctuary of Nemean Zeus have uncovered presses and storage jars that suggest the valley was already commercially producing wine in the 6th century BC. The mythological connection is direct: Nemea is where Heracles killed the lion as the first of his twelve labours, and the lion's skin became his trademark. The valley's wineries today range from boutique family operations of fewer than ten hectares to a handful of larger, internationally distributed estates.
A private day in Nemea typically begins with a stop at the Corinth Canal — the dramatic, narrow cut through the rock that separates mainland Greece from the Peloponnese. From there, the road climbs into the wine country. We arrange visits to two boutique wineries (chosen to show contrasting styles), with the owners or winemakers personally walking you through the vineyards, the cellar, and a structured tasting of three to six wines. Most guests are surprised by the quality and by how unfamiliar Greek wine still is internationally.
Lunch is the centrepiece — usually at a vineyard table, often with the winemaker still talking, paired with bread, cured meats, local cheeses, and a slow main course. We return to Athens late afternoon, with time to rest before dinner. The journey is not about quantity of wine; it is about understanding why this small valley produces something distinctive enough to matter.

Two — chosen for contrast. One boutique family estate for tradition, and a second producer with a different philosophy (modern winemaking, experimental varieties, or a historic cellar). Quality of conversation matters more than checking off a list.
In Their Own Words
From recent guests
“We took a private trip to Delphi with Gregory. He wasn't a 'taxi' driver — he was a host to Athens and the surrounding areas. Excellent and skillful driver, knew the roads to take when there was traffic, full of knowledge of Greece. Wonderful conversations and perfect recommendations for our stops. I fully recommend him.”

Private Day Trip to Delphi
“We were lucky to engage Greg at the Athens Airport after another driver refused to take us into the city. He was personable, gave us the lowdown on Athens, and got us to our Airbnb in record time through the back streets. We used him again for a trip outside the city for seven of us — flying colors. I would contact him again in a heartbeat.”
